Malignant tumors of soft tissues (muscles, fat, nerves, blood vessels, connective tissue). Many subtypes (liposarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, etc.). Present as painless growing masses, sometimes with pain or functional impairment. Treatment involves wide surgical excision ± radiation ± chemotherapy. High risk of local recurrence and metastasis.
Active soft tissue sarcoma, during treatment (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy), or for 6 months after treatment. Then re-evaluate based on residuals, local recurrence, or metastatic disease.
