Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)

Myeloproliferative disorder characterized by Philadelphia chromosome (BCR-ABL fusion gene) causing overproduction of myeloid cells. Three phases: chronic (most common at diagnosis), accelerated, and blast crisis. Treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors has dramatically improved prognosis. Symptoms include fatigue, weight loss, splenomegaly, and sometimes bleeding or infections.

Requiring peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant, or continuous myelosuppressive/immunosuppressive therapy (100% for 6 months post-transplant/treatment, then re-evaluate)

Requiring intermittent myelosuppressive therapy, molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, or interferon when not in apparent remission

30%

In apparent remission on continuous molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors
