Inflammation and degeneration of the Achilles tendon, the largest tendon in the body connecting calf muscles to heel bone. Causes pain and stiffness along the tendon, especially in the morning or after rest. May result from overuse, repetitive stress, sudden increase in activity, or improper footwear. Can lead to tendon rupture if severe and untreated.
